The project is aimed to deliver the basic physics, the necessary customized CFD tools and the recipe to successful develop prechamber based (prechamber spark plug or permanent passive prechamber) combustion systems for stationary (power generation, combined head and power and compression) and mobile (marine, truck, automotive) internal combustion engine applications. The to be developed recipe should allow superior efficiency (striving towards 50 %) compared to conventional spark plug based combustion system while being able to comply with the most stringent emission legislations (Gothenburg Protocol, TA Luft, Euro VI, EPA Tier IV etc.).
Deliverables
• New developed physics-based models to allow the commercially available CFD code (Converge and/or AVL FIRE) to accurately predict the combustion and emission of an internal combustion engine.
• Prechamber based combustion recipes for the defined applications delivering up to 50% of efficiency while meeting the most stringent application specific emission legislation and the required long-life time. The targets for each application will be defined in the steering committee meetings.
