The symposium will include a keynote speech given by Andrea Petö, 27 paper presentations and a workshop, as well as spaces for collective discussion. Divided across nine panels and a workshop, presentations are planned on myriad subjects, disciplines, and case studies. This event features presentations investigating the longue durée of narratives of violence and the political leveraging of emotions. A recurring theme is the role of these narratives in shaping identities and perceptions of victimhood, nationhood, and perpetration. Other panels explore the environments where these narratives are created and their role in forming memory on individual, communal, national, and global levels is also examined. Additionally, presentations on counter-narratives, denial, revisionism, and challenges to prevailing narratives underscore the involvement of multiple actors in shaping and politically exploiting these narratives. Several presentations extend beyond single case studies to analyse how key terms and ideologies frame narratives of violence.", proj-beginn = "17.09.2024", proj-end = "18.09.2024", forschungszentrum = "FZ RISK" }
